Launching of World Handicap System.

As most of you know, the World Handicap System was launched January 1st. The new Handicap System is significantly different than what we all are familiar with. Below are a few links that will further explain the changes.

There are a few topics on a Club level that need to be addressed. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your Professional Staff.

  • The Maximum Handicap Index has increased to 54.0.
  • Net Double Bogey is now the maximum posted score. Another way to think about this decision is Double Bogey Plus (please see link for further explanation).
  • For Tournament and Weekly Play, Green Valley will convert Handicap Indexes to Playing Handicaps weekly (Monday).
  • There will no longer be specified revision dates like in the past (i.e. the 1st and 15th of every month). Every time you submit a new score to the handicap system, a new Handicap Index will be calculated that night at midnight and you will have a new Handicap Index as of the following day. This means it is very important for you to post your scores as soon as possible on the day of play (and before midnight) in order for a new Handicap index to be properly calculated for the next day. Golfers who habitually post scores later than the same day will be subject to review by their handicap committees and possible disciplinary action (CGA – Frequently Asked Questions).
  • A new GHIN number will not be required but your previous score history has been preserved.
